The Katsina State Police Command successfully thwarted two kidnapping attempts on Monday in the villages of Gidan Filoti and Gidan Mairabo, located in the Malumfashi and Kankia local government areas. The rescue operations led to the freeing of seven victims.
In a statement issued to journalists on Monday, the Command Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Abubakar Sadiq, provided details of the operations.
The statement said, “On April 7, 2025, at about 1100 hrs, a distress call was received at Malumfashi Division that suspected armed bandits, wielding dangerous weapons, attacked Gidan Filoti and Gidan Mairabo villages, Malumfashi LGA, kidnapping two persons. Upon receipt of the report, swiftly the DPO led a team of operatives to the scene, where a gun duel ensued. The team successfully foiled the attack, rescuing the two kidnapped victims unhurt as the assailants fled the scene with bullet wounds.”
The statement continued, “Similarly, operatives attached to Kankia Divisions successfully foiled a kidnap attempt by bandits on Gidan Yan Ali of Kurba village, Kankia LGA, rescuing the abducted women and recovering rustled animals. On April 6th, 2025, at about 0000 hrs, a distress call was received at Kankia Division about the activities of suspected kidnappers. Swiftly, the DPO mobilised and responded to the scene, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun battle. The bandits were forced to flee the scene due to superior tactics and firepower, abandoning their victims and the stolen animals.”
The Commissioner of Police for Katsina State, Bello Shehu, praised the officers for their professionalism and bravery, stating, “The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, Bello Shehu, while commending the officers for their professionalism and bravery, urges members of the public to report anyone seen with bullet injuries to the nearest police station as efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators.”
The statement concluded, “Further developments will be communicated as the investigation proceeds.”
