Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has revealed that the remarkable success of her latest movie, Behind The Scenes, which grossed over ₦2.7 billion, came at the cost of intense personal sacrifice and unwavering dedication.

The interview, which resurfaced on X on Monday, has generated fresh conversations about the realities of success in the Nigerian film industry.

During an interview with BellaNaija, conducted days earlier, Akindele explained that achieving such a milestone demanded countless sleepless nights and complete focus on her work.

“So for me to get all these achievements, for the last movie to cross ₦2.7 billion, it was a lot of sleepless nights for me. A lot of sacrifice, giving my all. I forget to eat sometimes,” she said.

According to the actress, she devoted nearly all her time to her career, often placing work above social engagements and personal comfort.

“When I say a lot of work, a lot of giving your all into work,” she stated.

Prompt News reports Akindele admitted that, for years, she neglected herself while pursuing excellence in filmmaking.

“I abandoned myself for work. I don’t even make my hair, except I’m going on the red carpet or for something very important. I don’t attend parties. I don’t go to greet people at home. I put everything into work — research, writing, work. I’m neck deep into work.”

She disclosed that she has only recently started paying more attention to self-care.

“It’s just now that I’m relaxed, feeling fresh, doing the skincare routine, looking beautiful, smelling nice,” she said.

Her remarks drew varied responses online, with many praising her discipline and commitment, while others said her story reflects the level of hard work required to thrive in the film industry.

One X user, @pamilhereen, described the actress as “a very focused woman,” adding, “She’s so smart and intelligent.”

Another user, @richyz_official, commented, “This what will called? Self determination.”
