A Canada-based Nigerian, Idris Olajide Oladejo, has been charged with alleged sexual offences involving a child following an incident at a grocery store in Toronto.
The Toronto Police Service announced that the 35-year-old resident of Toronto was arrested on June 23, 2026, after investigators identified him as the suspect in the case.
According to the police, the incident occurred on the evening of June 21 in the Victoria Park Avenue and St. Clair Avenue East area of Toronto.
Authorities said officers responded to a report that a child had allegedly been sexually assaulted while shopping with the child’s parents at a grocery store.
The police stated that the suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident but was pursued by a member of the public.
As part of the investigation, investigators earlier released a description of the suspect and appealed to residents for information that could assist in locating him.
Following further inquiries, Oladejo was arrested and charged with one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference.
He was scheduled to appear before the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on June 23 to answer to the charges.
The Toronto Police Service noted that under Canadian law, sexual assault covers any form of unwanted sexual contact.
The authorities, however, stressed that the charges remain allegations, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
The case is the latest involving a Nigerian in Canada. Earlier this year, another Canada-based Nigerian, Kayode Roberts, was charged by Toronto police over allegations of hate-motivated criminal harassment involving a neighbour.
Investigations into the latest case are ongoing.
