Bandits have reportedly demanded N30m for the release of six Islamic clerics abducted in Zamfara State after attending a special prayer session for President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress.

The clerics were said to have been kidnapped after participating in the prayer organised by the Director-General of the APC campaign and Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdulaziz Yari.

The development was disclosed on Tuesday by a conflict reporter, D English Alhaji, in a post on Facebook.

According to the reporter, the six clerics were abducted by bandits shortly after the prayer session.

He alleged that the abductors had contacted the victims’ associates and demanded N30m as ransom for their release.

“These are the six Sheikhs that were abducted by bandits in Zamfara after attending special prayers session for Tinubu and APC, organised by the DG campaign for APC, Sen. Abdulaziz Yari,” he stated.

“Bandits are now demanding N30 million ransom for their release.”

The identities of the abducted clerics were not disclosed in the report, while details surrounding their location and the circumstances of the abduction remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.

There was also no official statement from the Zamfara State Government, the police or other security agencies confirming the abduction or the reported ransom demand.

The incident comes amid persistent attacks and abductions by armed groups in parts of Zamfara State, where residents and travellers have continued to face security challenges.
