American actor Alan Ritchson, best known for playing the lead role in the action series ‘Reacher,’ has announced the end of his 20-year marriage to Catherine.
The former couple disclosed their separation in a joint statement shared on Ritchson’s Instagram page on Saturday, saying they had decided to move forward “in a different way”.
Ritchson and Catherine married in 2006 and have three sons together. While they did not reveal what led to the breakdown of their marriage, they said their two decades together were defined by love and respect.
“After twenty years together. Cat and I have decided to end our marriage and continue alongside one another in a different way,” the statement reads.
“We grew up together. We built a life and a family together. And we are raising three incredible boys who will always be the centre of our world.
“Nothing can diminish what these years have meant to us-or the love and respect we will always share.
“The best gift we can give one another – and our boys – right now is friendship; grace and a commitment to becoming the strongest co-parents we can be.”
Prompt News reports the couple also acknowledged the attention their separation could attract because of Ritchson’s public profile. They appealed to the public to give them the privacy needed as they adjust to their new circumstances.
“We also want to give each other room to grow into the people we are becoming. Change is hard enough without the whole world weighing in,” they added.
“We hope, especially for the sake of our boys, that you will allow our family to move through this chapter with privacy and compassion.”

Although the announcement was made this weekend, court records indicate that Ritchson had filed for divorce from Catherine in December.
The 43-year-old actor began his professional acting career with an appearance on ‘Smallville’, featuring in the fifth and 10th seasons of the series.
He later gained wider recognition through his lead role as Jack Reacher in the action thriller series ‘Reacher’, which has become one of his most prominent roles.
