Abuba 98 Class of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria has urged the federal and state governments to take decisive measures to address insecurity in the country, ensuring the safety and protection of all citizens.
They made the call following the gruesome murder of a classmate, Mohammed Sani Sulaiman, affectionately called MSS by kidnappers on Monday along the Funtua-Gusau road.
MSS, who was recently appointed Regional Manager Northwest in Union Bank Plc, covering branches in the Northwestern Region of the bank, was kidnapped and killed while on an assignment to the bank branches under his coverage.
While MSS’ death is a stark reminder of the urgent need for coordinated action against the rampant insecurity situation in the country that has claimed far too many lives, the Abuba 98 Class sought enhanced security measures that involve the implementation of robust security strategies that prioritise the protection of human life and property, particularly in vulnerable communities.
They also crave the government’s support for families of Victims of insecurity, acknowledging their suffering and loss.
They therefore implore Nigerians, civil society organisations, and all stakeholders to demand a meaningful change.
“Our silence in the face of such tragedies can no longer be sustained. We owe it to MSS and others who have lost their lives in similar circumstances, their families and ourselves to raise our voices against the insecurity that threatens our very existence”.
