The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspects over a farmer-herder clash in Guda Village, Ningi Local Government Area, which left one farmer dead and several houses burnt.
The deceased, identified as 40-year-old Usman Jibrin, reportedly died while receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the violence.
The police spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the incident began on September 23, 2026, when three farmers discovered cattle belonging to a herder destroying their crops on Guda Hill.
According to the police, the farmers drove the cattle towards the herders’ settlement, where an argument broke out and escalated into a fight, leaving the three farmers injured.
Habib said the incident later triggered a reprisal attack, as some youths from Guda Village allegedly mobilised and set houses in the herders’ settlement ablaze.
He added that police operatives from the Ningi Division responded to the incident, restored calm and evacuated the injured to the General Hospital, Ningi, for treatment. However, one of the injured farmers later died.
The police spokesperson said four suspects were arrested on October 8 following intelligence-led operations.
They were arrested over alleged criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, arson and culpable homicide.
