Moses Usor has revealed that Moses Simon inspired him to take the risk that led to his spectacular winning goal in Nigeria’s 2-1 victory over Madagascar in the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers.
The LASK of Austria winger came off the bench to score the decisive goal for the Super Eagles in a keenly contested encounter.
Usor received the ball inside Nigeria’s half before driving forward, beating two defenders with his pace and skill, and firing a superb effort into the net.
The 24-year-old revealed that advice from Simon gave him the confidence to express himself on the pitch.
“I was warming up with Moses Simon when they called me, and we went in together. He advised me to just play my game and be myself,” Usor told the Super Eagles media.
“He said if you have the ball and you want to go one-on-one, you can take the risk. He gave me the confidence to play the game.
“I went in with the mentality of taking risks and showing what I can do. It’s still a surprise to me. I still feel it is a dream, playing at this level. It is still like a dream to me.
“I was like, ‘Is this me?’ You know, after my goal, I went down on my knees to pray. I really thank God for it.”
Usor was also delighted to finally fulfil his long-time ambition of representing Nigeria.
“It was a different feeling because my family were also there. I was really happy seeing everyone there,” Usor said.
“This is something I have always dreamt of. It’s a good feeling being in camp with the players. I have always dreamt of this moment.
“It’s different playing alongside Lookman, Bassey and the others.”
The winger also pledged to continue giving his all whenever he gets the opportunity to represent the Super Eagles.
“I will always give my best whenever I’m on the pitch and contribute to the attack. I will do my best whenever I’m on the pitch and defend the badge,” Usor stated.
“That is very important because I know Nigerians will be expecting more from me, and I will continue to give my best for the team.”
