The Osun State Police Command has launched investigation into the shooting of Governor Adeleke’s ally, Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as “Emir” in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The command disclosed this on Wednesday, in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, in Osogbo, saying they were working to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the shooting, identify those responsible and bring all culpable persons to justice.
It would be recalled that Oyeyemi and transport union stakeholders held a meeting with the Commissioner for transport where it was agreed that Oyeyemi will be announced as the Chairman of the new motor park system in the state.
After the meeting Oyeyemi and his entourage stop at Mayfair motorpark to eat when the gunmen loyal to Alowonle stormed the park and started shooting sporadically at the team, during which he was killed.
According to the release, police attention was drawn to an accident around Energy Filling Station, Ile-Ife, after which operatives were deployed to restore normalcy, secure the scene and commence investigation. Preliminary findings revealed that Oyeyemi was shot.
The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, Ibrahim Zungura, condemned the act and urged individuals, groups and members of the public not to take the law into their hands or engage in reprisal, violence, destruction of property or any other criminality.
He also urged residents of Ile-Ife and the entire state to remain calm, law-abiding and cooperate with the police by providing useful information.
“I strongly condemn this act, I urge individuals, groups and other members of the public not to take laws into their hands or engage in acts of reprisal, violence, destruction of property or any other form of criminality.
“The Osun State Police Command remains unwavering in its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and public order. We also condole with the immediate family and friends of Olalekan Oyeyemi” Ibrahim said.
