Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has picked former Finance Commissioner, Ibrahim Muhammad Augie, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election, replacing the incumbent Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida-Arugungu.
The development was announced on Sunday by the National Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi.
Argungu made the announcement while receiving stakeholders from the Argungu Emirate who had paid a thank-you visit to the governor.
According to him, the decision followed legal advice concerning the eligibility of the incumbent deputy governor to contest the 2027 election alongside Idris.
“The present Deputy Governor was dropped as the running mate to Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu for the 2027 general election based on professional legal advice,” Argungu said.
He thereafter announced Augie as Idris’ new running mate for the forthcoming governorship poll.
Argungu said the decision was made with the consent of Tafida-Arugungu, dismissing suggestions that the development was caused by a disagreement between the governor and his deputy.
He urged APC members and supporters to accept the change and remain united ahead of the 2027 election.
Also speaking, Governor Idris denied reports of a strained relationship between him and Tafida-Arugungu.
He assured party members that he would work closely with the new running mate and called for unity among supporters as his administration continued its development programmes.

Augie served as Commissioner for Finance during the administration of former Governor Atiku Bagudu and hails from Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The governor also expressed appreciation to the people and traditional stakeholders of the Argungu Emirate for their continued support for his administration.
