The President of the Dorowa Babuje Youth Council in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Pam Fom, has reportedly been shot by suspected armed attackers a day after publicly condemning the killing of two youths in his community.
Fom was said to have been ambushed on Wednesday while travelling to a neighbouring community, barely hours after granting an interview in which he criticised the attack on Dorowa and appealed for improved security.
Conflict journalist Masara Kim Usman disclosed the development in a post on his Facebook page on Thursday, alleging that the youth leader was attacked by suspected Fulani militias shortly after speaking out against the violence in his community.
According to Usman, Fom had described how armed assailants allegedly concealed themselves among grazing cattle before targeting two young men riding on a motorcycle.
He said the attackers later stormed a nearby mining site, where they opened fire on miners, leaving several people injured.
During the interview, the youth leader urged the government and security agencies to strengthen security in the area, warning that residents might be forced to defend themselves if the attacks continued.
Reports indicated that shortly after making those remarks, Fom was ambushed by gunmen who shot him and left him with serious injuries.
Another community leader, Titus Badung, also confirmed the incident in a social media post, stating that the attack occurred just one day after Fom spoke publicly about the killings that had thrown the community into mourning.
