Armed bandits have raided Kabe community in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, killing an 85 year old woman and abducting several residents during a night assault.
The attack, which took place late on Tuesday, came barely hours after Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago vowed to partner with the Federal Government to flush terrorists out of Kainji National Park and surrounding forests.
Eyewitnesses said the marauders stormed the remote village around 10pm, riding on motorcycles and breaking into homes in search of food supplies.
“They went from house to house emptying stores,” a resident told our correspondent.
“We believe they were taking the food to feed other victims held inside the forest.”
The elderly woman, identified as Amina Adamu, was reportedly shot while trying to flee the gunmen.
Her killing followed a fresh wave of violence in the emirate, which saw bandits burn Kasuwan Daji market and kill more than 30 villagers two weeks ago, prompting the closure of the market.
