Afrobeats star Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has sparked controversy after demanding severe punishments for rapists amid rising sexual assault reports across Nigeria.

On Tuesday night, the singer took to X to call for decisive action against sexual violence targeting women, writing:

“I’m sickkk of this. Stop raping women. They need to castrate rapists and burn them.”

Her remarks ignited debate online, with some arguing that false rape accusers should also face similar punishments.

Simi clarified that her appeal focuses solely on rape victims, not individuals making false allegations, explaining that almost all the women she knows have experienced sexual assault.

“How many of your friends have actually assaulted women as vibes?? Women are terrified to go out. Women in their homes are not safe either. Ask your sisters. Ask your female friends and your girlfriends. Ask your wives. We’re not all crazy. Stop raping women,” she stressed.

Prompt News reports the singer also urged men to hold each other accountable, arguing that some men perpetuate a culture that allows rapists to operate unchecked.
