Ghana Black Queens, Nigeria’s next opponent in the pre-tournament international friendly match
billed for Sunday, Ghana have sent warning signals ahead of the prestige clash with a comprehensive 4-2 defeat of Benin Republic senior women’s football team on Wednesday night at Ziaïda Complex in Benslimane, Morocco.
Goals from Nina Norshie, Alice Kusi, Susan Duah, and Chantelle Hlorkah propelled the Black Queens to secure their second win after a recent 3-1victory over Malawi during the build-up to the 13th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) holding in Morocco from July 5 to 26, 2025.
In an encounter that produced six goals, Ghana’s Norshie opened the scoring with an early strike in the 4th minute, but just seven minutes later, Aude Gbedjissi of Benin scored to restore parity to the game in the 11th minute.
Gbedjissi scored a brace in the 32nd minute when she converted a penalty for Benin to make it 2-1 before the halftime break.
Trailing at halftime, Ghana’s head coach Lars Kim Bjorkegren tweaked his tactical options, and it took the Black Queens a show of impressive character in the second half to turn things around.
Ten minutes into the second half, Ghana roared into life again as Kusi equalized in the 54th minute and followed by two more goals scored by Duah 70th minute, and Hlorkah 81st minute respectively to help the Black Queens to secure a 4-2 win against Benin at the end of the contest.
