Popular Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola Olalomi, widely known as Portable, has been brought before the Isabo High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, over allegations of assaulting government officials.
The police had declared the musician wanted on February 18 following an alleged attack on three officials from the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA). The officials were reportedly at his establishment to enforce regulatory compliance when the incident occurred.
Portable surrendered to the police in Lagos on Wednesday and was subsequently transferred to the Ogun State Police Command. He was taken to court on Thursday.
The altercation, which took place on February 5, involved OGPDPA officials attempting to seal his bar due to violations, including a lack of proper permits and inadequate airspace clearance. Portable allegedly led an assault on the officials, causing them injuries before they managed to escape.
In response, authorities arrested and arraigned nine of his associates on various charges, including felony, assault, obstruction, armed violence, and attempted murder.
The case has sparked mixed reactions, with some demanding strict legal measures while others emphasize the need for due process. Court proceedings are currently underway.
