The Jigawa State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 60-year-old man who reportedly died after checking into a hotel with a 20-year-old woman in Dutse, the state capital.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the deceased developed a medical emergency while staying at the hotel.
According to the police, the man had checked into the facility with the young woman before requesting a meal.
Shortly afterwards, he reportedly began gasping for breath, prompting an emergency call.
Operatives attached to the Yalwawa Police Division responded swiftly to the distress report and evacuated him to the General Hospital in Dutse, where medical personnel confirmed him dead.
As part of the investigation, detectives searched the hotel room and recovered food items, drinks, a substance suspected to be a sexual enhancement product and other personal belongings believed to be relevant to the case.
The police said the deceased’s remains were later released to his family for burial following their request.
The 20-year-old woman, who was with the deceased before the incident, is currently assisting investigators by providing information that could help establish the circumstances surrounding his death.

The command urged members of the public to refrain from circulating rumours or speculating on the incident, assuring that a thorough, professional and impartial investigation is underway to determine the actual cause of the man’s death.
