A former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State, Bosun Arebuwa, has defected to the All Progressives Congress alongside hundreds of his supporters.
Arebuwa, who contested the PDP governorship ticket ahead of the 2024 Ondo State governorship election, led the defectors into the APC on Friday at the International Culture and Event Centre, Akure, the state capital.
Speaking at the defection ceremony, Arebuwa said he and his supporters decided to leave the PDP after being impressed by the performance of President Bola Tinubu.
He said the group comprised supporters drawn from more than 3,000 political units and 203 wards across the 18 local government areas of the state.
Arebuwa said the defectors were prepared to deploy their political experience and resources towards supporting Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
He said, “We have left the PDP. We want to join hands with others to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office. Mr President has done well. We shall use our resources to support him; that is why we joined the winning party.
“We are leaving the PDP with all our supporters from over 3,000 units and 203 wards across the 18 local government areas of the state. We are ready to work for the APC in Ondo State to ensure President Bola Tinubu and all our candidates win the election in 2027.
“My first line of action is to deploy my experience and capacity to ensure President Bola Tinubu wins the presidential election come January 2027. We are well prepared because that is our cardinal objective of coming to the APC.
“He has done creditably well. We have not had a good President like this before, so that is why we will use all we have to support him.”
Receiving the defectors on behalf of the APC leadership in Ondo State, Chief Olusola Oke, SAN, urged them to return to their respective wards and local government areas and commence work for the party.
Oke described Arebuwa as an influential politician whose entry into the APC would strengthen the party’s activities in the state.
“I welcome all of you to the ruling All Progressives Congress. You will never regret joining the APC.
I want to implore you to work for the party at your various wards and local governments,” he said.
