Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has opened up about the foundation of her 24-year marriage to husband Nnamdi Oboli, crediting their lasting union to a deep-rooted decision they made even before walking down the aisle.
In a heartfelt interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Omoni shared that the key to their marital longevity was a mutual agreement to never entertain the idea of divorce — no matter what challenges came their way.
“Staying married for over two decades… First things first, you have to decide. It’s a decision. From day one, we decided that divorce was not an option—even before we got married,” she said.
The actress also spoke on the vital role of forgiveness in keeping a marriage alive, stressing that most disagreements can be resolved if both partners are willing to let go of resentment.

“There’s almost nothing someone can do that you can’t forgive, if you want to forgive. We all have to realise that we’re all sinners,” she added.
Reflecting on how their journey began, Omoni admitted their romance moved at lightning speed. Her husband proposed just two weeks after they met, and within four months, they were married.
“I was young. Till today, I don’t know how I agreed to marry him so quickly. But I know I fell in love with the way my husband loved me,” she confessed.
Although their first year was far from smooth, she believes their early commitment to staying together gave them the strength to weather the storms and grow stronger as a couple.
Omoni also revealed that her latest film, After a Night in July — a sequel to her earlier project — draws inspiration from her own life. The story, she said, mirrors parts of her marital journey, making it a deeply personal piece of work.
In a caption shared with a promotional video, she wrote:
“After a Night in July is so special to me because parts of it mirror my real life. My husband proposed two weeks in, and we married four months later! Our first year was turbulent, but we chose love. If you’re married or intend to marry, you’ll learn, laugh, and love.”
The film, like her story, is a tribute to enduring love, choices, and second chances.
