One shining example of that vision fulfilled is the inspiring journey of Olakunle Olusegun Jnr., a young footballer whose rise to international recognition reflects the lasting impact of Coach Soni Ahamioje’s commitment to grassroots development through sports.
Olakunle’s football dream began at Arsenal Kiddies football Academy, Ilorin, under the mentorship of Coach Ahamioje, who helped developed his early talent, dedication and discipline. His passion, talent, skills and determination soon opened a new chapter as Abubakar Bukola Saraki Football Club (ABS FC), a club established by Dr. Saraki came calling.
At ABS FC, Olakunle’s talent flourished as a result of Coach Ahamioje early football methodology and technical ingenuity which was impacted onto him at his grassroots Academy.
His speed, creativity, vision, awareness and work ethic quickly caught the eyes of national selectors, earning him call-up to represent Nigeria’s U-17 national team, where he proudly wore the green and white jersey.
His consistent performances earned him a move to Europe, where he began his professional career with FC Fremad. Amager in Denmark before moving to FC Krasnodar in Russia.
Over the years, Olakunle has continued to impress with his outstanding displays and commitment to excellence. He currently plays for Pari Nizhny Novgorod in Russia, continuing to represent Nigerian football with pride.
The journey reached a new height when Olakunle Olusegun made his senior national team debut for the Super Eagles of Nigeria against Benin Republic in crucial World Cup qualifiers, marking a proud and historic moment, not only for him but also for Arsenal Kiddies Football Academy, Ilorin, ABS FC and for his grassroots Coach Soni Ahamioje, whose vision continues to transform the lives of young football talents in Kwara State and Nigeria in general.
From the humble pitches of Arsenal Kiddies Football Academy to ABS FC, and now to the global stage, Olakunle Junior Olusegun’s story is a living testimony to the unwavering belief of Coach Soni Ahamioje in engaging the youths in productive ventures, talent development, community growth and poverty eradication.
