Nigerian Afro-house singer Niniola Apata is preparing to return to the music scene with a new single, “O Du Mi”, following the death of her husband, Michael Ndika.
The song is scheduled for release on August 14 and will mark Niniola’s first major musical project since Ndika died in May 2026.
Ndika, who was the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview and also managed Niniola’s career, was married to the singer for 13 years.
Following his death, Niniola openly shared her grief with fans on social media. In some of her emotional posts, she wrote, “God took him” and “My husband died,” before later describing Ndika as her “best friend, confidant, pillar, business partner and husband”.
The singer said “O Du Mi” reflects the difficult period she has been experiencing, with the song exploring themes of love, loss and healing.
“Some feelings are too deep for words. So I put them in a song,” Niniola wrote while unveiling a preview of the track.
Although she took time away from the spotlight after her husband’s death, Niniola has gradually resumed public appearances and performances. She was recently seen at the album launch of her younger sister, singer Teniola Apata, popularly known as Teni.

“There are no words for a moment like this, but I know he’d want me to keep singing, to keep showing up, and to keep sharing the gift we’ve always believed in,” she said.
Prompt News reports the release of “O Du Mi” is expected to usher in a new chapter for the singer as she continues her musical journey while navigating her loss.
Niniola, who has built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s prominent Afro-house artistes, is known for hit songs including “Maradona” and “Designer”. Her music combines traditional African influences with contemporary sounds.
