Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has said the responsibility of addressing Nigeria’s challenges should not rest solely on celebrities.
The former member of the defunct P-Square group made the remark while responding to frequent calls for entertainers and public figures to speak out against issues such as poor governance, insecurity and the rising cost of living.
Speaking during a recent interview, Mr P acknowledged that he had previously stated he would no longer involve himself in discussions about the country’s problems, but stressed that national development requires collective effort from all citizens.
“I apologise for saying I won’t concern myself with Nigeria’s challenges anymore. I may have security agencies guiding me but not everyone can afford it. This is our country, it is only us who can bring positive changes,” he stated.
The singer noted that while celebrities can use their platforms to raise awareness, they cannot single-handedly solve the nation’s problems.

“However, celebrities alone can’t save Nigeria. All those clamouring for celebrities to speak up against bad governance should redirect their energy. It is not a matter of celebrities. This government has failed us all. But together, we can bring the desired change,” he added.
