The family of a Nigerian woman, Christiana Nwosu, has appealed for public support to repatriate her remains after she reportedly died of cardiac arrest while on a visit to the United Kingdom.
The appeal was made through a GoFundMe campaign launched on behalf of the family by Chijioke Metuka, who disclosed that Nwosu died on July 19, 2026.
According to the campaign, her sudden death has left her children, relatives and loved ones devastated.
Metuka described the deceased as a compassionate and caring woman whose passing had created a huge vacuum in the lives of those who knew her.
The family said its desire was to return Nwosu’s body to Nigeria for burial, where she would be laid to rest among her extended family and in her ancestral home.
It noted that the cost of repatriating her remains from the UK was estimated at about £10,000, covering funeral director services, repatriation arrangements, documentation, air freight, transportation, and burial expenses in Nigeria.
The organisers explained that the fundraising campaign was established to ease the financial burden on the bereaved family and urged members of the public to contribute towards achieving the target.
They also appealed to those unable to make financial donations to support the campaign by sharing it with others and remembering the family in their prayers.
As of the time the appeal was viewed on Monday, donations had reached £7,941 out of the £10,000 target.
The development comes months after another Nigerian family sought public support to repatriate the remains of Oluranti Akinyemi, who died in the United Kingdom shortly after arriving for her son’s graduation ceremony.
