It is a moot point that distraction is a universal problem affecting the productivity of most people. While we all admit and acknowledge the fact that distraction is a hydra-headed monster that is collaterally impeding the growth, development, and productivity of both the young and the old, there is a paucity of literature that contains practical solutions.

Help is here, now, courtesy of Pastor Wole Oladiyun, Senior Pastor of the Christ Livingspring Apostolic Ministry (CLAM), Omole, Lagos. He has just released his 99th book titled Overcoming Distractions. This new publication is part of his efforts to educate, sensitise, and re-orientate youths. Pastor Oladiyun had earlier authored the following books: Youths, Arise and Take Your Place in Destiny; G.R.I.T. (2020); Choices and Consequences (2021); Mental Fortitude (2022), all aimed at Generation Z.

Overcoming Distractions is a 40-page, seven-chapter book that is simply unputdownable. From cover to cover, the book contains nuggets and tips that were drawn from real-life experiences. If you were expecting the book to be full of bible quotations because it was authored by a pastor, you would be disappointed. What Pastor Oladiyun has masterly done is merge biblical concepts with real-life examples thereby offering deep insights into how the problem of distraction can be surmounted.

As loaded as the book is, the average time for reading it is one hour non-stop. This is commendable although it is not a fiction book, but a book full of valuable tips that both the young and the old can immediately begin to put to use. The book is well segmented into Chapters as listed below:

• Chapter 1 – What is Distraction?
• Chapter 2 – What is Focus?
• Chapter 3 – Categories of Distractions
• Chapter 4 – Effects of Distractions
• Chapter 5 – How to Prevent Tech Distractions
• Chapter 6 – How to Manage Distractions
• Chapter 7 – Conclusion

Each Chapter opens with a quotation that introduces the essence and relevance of the Chapter thereby triggering the reader’s interest and desire to read on. While defining distraction as anybody or anything that diverts one’s attention away from a set goal thus preventing or delaying the accomplishment of the goal.

One unique feature of Overcoming Distractions is the author’s creative ability to adopt a classical approach of defining the problem, analyzing the consequences, and proferring practical solutions. In all the Chapters, it was easy to have a good grasp of the issues at stake, and the recommended solutions.

This is a good book for everyone desirous of improving efficiency and productivity. You can’t read this book and still grapple with the problem of distraction. Copies of the book can be purchased at CLAM Bookshop, Plots 1 – 6, CLAM Avenue, Omole, Lagos. The book is also available on Kindle, Amazon, and Jumia. You can also order online by visiting www.woleoladiyun.com/store.
