The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects linked to separate murder cases in the Shanga and Zuru Local Government Areas.
These incidents, described as “disturbing” by Commissioner of Police Bello Sani, have sparked renewed calls for peaceful conflict resolution.
In a statement released on Friday, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed details of the incidents.
On December 31, 2024, at around 8:00 PM, Yunusa Haruna, a 25-year-old resident of Bakin Turu village in Shanga LGA, was arrested for allegedly stabbing his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, to death.
Police reports indicate the suspect attacked his brother with a sharp knife during an argument, leading to the fatal injury. Officers from the Shanga Divisional Police Headquarters responded swiftly, leading to the arrest.
In a separate case, Abubakar Umar, also 25, from Jarkasa in Zuru LGA, was taken into custody on January 8, 2025, at about 4:30 PM.
He is accused of fatally stabbing Mohammed Bala in the head with a knife during a dispute. Umar also allegedly injured Mohammed’s younger brother, Sama’ila Bala, during the altercation. Officers from the Zuru Divisional Police Headquarters promptly apprehended Umar after the incident.
Reacting to the cases, Commissioner of Police Bello Sani condemned the violence and urged residents to channel grievances through appropriate authorities rather than resorting to violence.
He further directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a thorough investigation into the two incidents.
According to the Command, the suspects will face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring peace and security in Kebbi State.
