The advancement of Nigerians living with disabilities takes the centre stage of national discourse from Saturday, October 30 as eminent Nigerians gather in Abuja to seek means of enforcing the law mandating both the public and private organizations in the country to give Five percent of their employment to persons with disabilities.
Holding as the 16th anniversary of Kpakpando Foundation, the foremost internationally recognized non- governmental organization championing the cause of people with disabilities in Nigeria, the latest advocacy, themed 5 % Employment Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria: Time to Walk the Talk is aimed at securing massive dignifying jobs for these special Nigerians and make life better and more meaning for them.
Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi would chair the occasion while the President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Aliyu Wabba delivers the keynote address and the Minister of Labor and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige is the Father of the Day at the event holding at the Conference Hall of Nicon Luxury Hotel & Suites , Area 11, Garki, Abuja by 10 in the morning.
The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Chief Sunday Dare, the Special Guest of Honor at the occasion would preside over the honoring of the victorious 2021 Tokyo Paralympics Games medalists being particularly celebrated by Kpakpando Foundation on that day.
The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, United Nations Representatives, President of JONPED, Beta Asi (Norland ) would deliver goodwill messages.
Beyond the advocacy, the 16th anniversary of Kpakpando Foundation would also witness award of scholarships to deserving persons with disabilities across Nigeria, flag off, of a comprehensive medical outreach and distribution of materials and aides to a number of persons with disabilities.
Since 2005, Kpakpando Foundation, founded by Senator Osita Izunaso has been in the vanguard of promoting the cause of persons with disabilities in Nigeria, providing for their needs, sponsoring their education, vocational and skills acquisition, reaching out to them in all areas of life.
The establishment of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities was largely achieved owing to consistent pressure and advocacy of Kpakpando Foundation on the government.
