The Jigawa State Executive Council on Thursday approved the construction of three new general hospitals in Gagarawa, Gwiwa and Kirikasamma local government areas of the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, made this known in a statement in Dutse.

Ibrahim stated that the approval was part of government’s effort to establish functional secondary health facility in each of the 27 local government areas of the state.

He noted that “this is in line with the commitment of the current administration to establish secondary health facilities in each of the 27 LGAs.

“It is also to enhance the provision of accessible qualitative and affordable healthcare services to the good people of Jigawa.”

He stated that the government had so far among others, constructed three new general hospitals, upgraded six Primary Health Centres, bringing the total to 21 secondary facilities across the state.

“The Executive Council noted with pleasure the completion of phase I of Kazaure Specialist Hospital, hence the need to carry out the phase II so as to put the project to effective utilisation.

“The phase II of the project include: construction of road networks, staff quarters, external electrical and mechanical installations,”he said.

According to the commissioner, the construction of General Hospital in Gagarawa was awarded to Baban Doki Gen. Enterprises at the cost of N698,657,541.32, with a completion period of eight months.

Ibrahim said the construction of General Hospital in Gwiwa was awarded to Ngaloma Construction Company at the cost of 699,157,385.33, with a completion period of eight months.

He added that the construction of the General Hospital in Kirikasamma was given to Baban Doki Gen. Enterprises at the cost of N713,289,375.45, with a completion period of eight months too.

“And phase II construction works at the new Specialist Hospital, Kazaure, was awarded to Afdin Construction Ltd., at the contract sum of N626, 914,554.74, with a completion period of 24 weeks,”he said. (NAN)
