The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has dismissed claims that its former lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has been reinstated, insisting that the decision terminating his appointment remains valid.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, described reports of Ejiofor’s reappointment as baseless, alleging that the letter backing the move originated from individuals who had been expelled from the organisation and therefore lacked the authority to act on its behalf.
According to the statement, any document purportedly restoring Ejiofor as counsel to IPOB has no legal or organisational standing.
The group maintained that persons no longer recognised as members of the movement cannot make decisions or issue appointments in its name.
Powerful reiterated that IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, had formally relieved Ejiofor of his duties and that the decision remained binding.
He also maintained that members of the dissolved Directorate of State who were previously expelled from the organisation have no authority to reverse directives issued by Kanu.
The group warned Ejiofor against presenting himself as legal representative of either IPOB or its detained leader, stressing that his services had been permanently terminated. It added that although he was free to represent other clients, he no longer had any mandate to handle the affairs of the separatist movement.
IPOB further alleged that Ejiofor’s handling of Kanu’s legal matters contributed to the prolonged detention of its leader, describing his performance as a failure of professional responsibility.
The latest development follows Kanu’s recent announcement confirming the termination of Ejiofor’s appointment.
In a letter dated July 22, the IPOB leader stated that although he had previously communicated the decision verbally, he decided to formalise it in writing.

Kanu also accused the lawyer of continuing to act on behalf of him and the organisation despite the termination of his engagement and cautioned him against disclosing confidential information relating to his legal matters.
