Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has sparked discussion online after revealing that some musicians can earn as much as $400,000 for performing at naming ceremonies.
The Afrobeat star shared this during a recent appearance on the show Tap In With TT, where he discussed the high fees artists can command for private events.
According to Davido, it’s not uncommon for celebrities in Nigeria to be invited to personal celebrations like naming ceremonies, and the pay can be substantial.
He likened this trend to what happens in India, where prominent artists are regularly booked for various social occasions.
His comments have drawn mixed reactions, with many surprised by the large figures being discussed for such intimate gatherings.
Davido said, “You can get booked for a naming ceremony – $400K, It’s just like in India, they always celebrate anything. Once you are doing a wedding or a birthday, especially if you have money, the main thing is to invite a big artist…”
