Controversial Ghanaian singer Shatta Wale has criticised the level of support entertainers receive in his home country, arguing that Ghanaian artistes are undervalued compared to their Nigerian counterparts.
Speaking during a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, the musician said the lack of appreciation in Ghana leaves many entertainers struggling financially despite their popularity.
Shatta Wale recounted his own experience at the height of his fame, revealing that he faced financial hardship and had to rely on his girlfriend, who lived with her parents, for accommodation.
He also disclosed that he travelled to events in taxis because he could not afford luxury transportation, adding that many Ghanaian artistes faced similar realities.
“Nigerians appreciate success, Ghana doesn’t appreciate success. As a star, I was sleeping on the street as big as I am. At one point, my girlfriend who was living with her parents’ was the one accommodating me.

“Even as a big Ghanaian artist, back then, I take taxis to shows. Not just me, a lot of Ghanaian artists do that. Ghanaian artists earn pennies, while their Nigerian counterparts earn big.”
Prompt News reports the singer urged Ghanaian entertainers to emulate the standards set by Nigerian artistes and work towards building a stronger and more rewarding entertainment industry.
