Team Nigeria’s Samuel Ogazi delivered a sensational performance to claim the gold medal in the men’s 400m at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Saturday, Prompt News Online reports.
Ogazi powered to a dominant victory, finishing comfortably ahead of Trinidad and Tobago’s Jereem Richards, who took silver in 44.82 seconds. South Africa’s Zakithi Nene completed the podium with a bronze-medal finish in 45.21 seconds.
Nigeria’s second finalist, Edidiong Okon Udo, placed eighth after clocking 45.81 seconds.
In the women’s 400m final, Ella Onojuvwevwo also stepped onto the podium, earning bronze to boost Team Nigeria’s medal tally.
The Nigerian star finished in 51.00 seconds, missing out on the silver medal by the slimmest of margins—just 0.01 seconds.
Jamaica’s Dejanea Oakley stormed to gold in 50.21 seconds, while Barbados’ Sada Williams edged Onojuvwevwo to silver with a time of 50.99 seconds.
Ogazi’s triumph and Onojuvwevwo’s podium finish further strengthened Team Nigeria’s impressive athletics campaign at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
