The family of renowned filmmaker, director, and actor Kayode Peters has unveiled details of his final rites, confirming that tribute events and burial ceremonies will be held in Lagos, London, and Toronto.

Peters, who died last month after battling a prolonged illness, was a beloved figure in Nigeria’s entertainment scene. Celebrated for his storytelling flair and creative direction, he was best known for steering hit comedy series like Flatmates and the popular sitcom Extended Family.

In an emotional post shared via Instagram, the family conveyed their gratitude for the overwhelming support they’ve received since his passing.

“As we prepare to lay our beloved Kayode Peters to rest, from the depths of our hearts, THANK YOU,” the statement read.

“In the midst of this heartbreaking loss, your love, prayers, messages, calls, visits, support, and every gesture of kindness have wrapped us in comfort.”

The funeral arrangements will begin with a Night of Tribute in Lagos on July 22, followed by another Night of Tribute in London on July 29. The burial service and interment are scheduled to take place on August 2 in Toronto, Canada.

            The family’s statement added:
“Upcoming dates and locations of events – Night of Tribute [Lagos] – [22nd July 2025], Night of Tribute [London] – [29th July 2025], Burial Service & Internment [Toronto] – [2nd August 2025].”

Kayode Peters was not only cherished for his contributions to the Nigerian creative industry but also earned recognition abroad. In 2024, he won the Best Director (International) award for his film Survivors at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF), further cementing his global influence.

The funeral tributes scheduled across three countries underscore the deep and far-reaching impact Peters had through his art, and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
