ABUJA – Agatha Nnaji, the first Lady Captain of IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja, on Friday urged young Nigerian ladies to take to the golf sport for its immense benefits.
Nnaji who spoke at the ceremonial tee-off of the 18th IBB Ladies Closed Golf Championship in Abuja said golf was a game which would do them a lot of good.
“They should not see the sport as being a sport for the old. It is for both the old and the young. And, I particularly want to recommend it to the young ones, especially the ladies,’’ she said.
Nnaji noted that she had noticed that the young ladies have shown the tendency to shy away from playing the game, but she pointed out that golf was a very good game.
“Our young ladies have to believe it, that this game is very good. It is good not only for keeping fit, alongside walking and swimming, but also very good in changing lives.
“It raises status, either socially, economically or professionally,’’ the former lady captain said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this year’s edition of the IBB Ladies Closed Golf Championships teed off on Friday, with about 200 golfers altogether expected to participate.
