A 22-year-old carpenter has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly stealing four 43-inch plasma televisions from a client’s residence in Bauchi metropolis.
Police spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued late Monday, identifying the suspect as Auwal Mohammed, a resident of the Sabon Railway area.
According to the police, Mohammed had been contracted to work as a carpenter in a private residence when he allegedly discovered the new televisions stored in one of the rooms.
He reportedly moved the items to a hidden location within the same compound, where they remained for about two weeks.
The suspect later transferred the televisions to a neighbour’s house under the pretense of safekeeping and received a sum of N50,000 as credit, Wakil said.
Further investigations revealed that one of the stolen televisions was sold for N40,000 to a known dealer in stolen property.
The police said efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest accomplices and recover the remaining items.
