No fewer than 30 residents have been arrested in Ondo State for allegedly violating environmental sanitation regulations during the state’s monthly clean-up exercise.
The arrests were made on Saturday by environmental health officers during the sanitation exercise across the state.
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Environmental Health and Safety, Samuel Bolala, disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Akure.
He said the arrested residents would be prosecuted before the state’s Special Environmental Court for violating sanitation laws.
Bolala explained that the exercise was designed to promote environmental hygiene, enforce proper waste disposal and protect public health.
He urged residents to maintain clean surroundings, particularly in residential areas, markets, streets and other public spaces, stressing that environmental sanitation should be a shared responsibility.
The governor’s aide also called for stronger cooperation among government agencies, environmental health officers, waste management authorities and residents to achieve sustainable environmental cleanliness.
He said the exercise was in line with Aiyedatiwa’s OUR EASE agenda, which prioritises a cleaner, safer and healthier environment for residents.
Bolala commended environmental health officers and waste management personnel for their efforts, urging them to sustain enforcement and engage residents professionally.
