A security guard has been killed after suspected bandits launched two successive attacks on Ribah community in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, despite resistance from joint security forces.
The 47-year-old victim, identified as Hassan Boder, was reportedly struck by a stray bullet during a gun battle between the attackers and security operatives on Friday.
The Kebbi State Police Command said the first attack occurred around 7:25pm on October 30, when the assailants attempted to block Rambo Junction along the Ribah-Dirin Daji Road.
According to the command, a joint team comprising police officers, military personnel and local vigilantes intercepted the attackers, engaging them in a gun duel that forced them to retreat.
However, the assailants later regrouped and returned, firing sporadically from different directions within the community.
During the second assault, Boder was hit by a bullet at a newly constructed filling station along the Ribah-Kanya Road.
The police said security operatives responded to a distress call and successfully repelled the renewed attack.
