Award-winning Nigerian singer Asake has clinched the top spot as Nigeria’s most-streamed artiste on Spotify, according to fresh statistics released by the global streaming service to commemorate its fifth anniversary in Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana.
The figures, shared on Spotify’s official Instagram page on Monday, highlight the platform’s rapid expansion across the three countries, driven largely by African listeners.
Asake leads a chart stacked with some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars, ranking ahead of Wizkid, Seyi Vibez, Burna Boy and Davido. The list once again underlines Afrobeats’ firm grip on the Nigerian soundscape, with homegrown artistes shaping listening trends nationwide.
In its celebratory post, Spotify acknowledged the role of users, describing the journey as being “powered by you.”
Alongside his dominance among artistes, Asake also ruled the songs category, with “Remember” emerging as Nigeria’s most-played track on the platform. His hit “Lonely at the Top” also featured prominently in the top five, reflecting the enduring popularity of his music.
Other songs that made the list include “Dealer” by Ayo Maff featuring Fireboy DML, “Awolowo” by Fido, and “Kese (Dance)” by Wizkid, showcasing a rich mix of street pop, mainstream Afrobeats and dance-driven records.
Spotify’s report further showed that Nigerian users created over 25 million playlists in five years — a figure that outpaces Kenya’s 9.5 million and Ghana’s 3.7 million. The data also revealed that the average Nigerian Spotify listener is 26 years old, highlighting the youthful audience driving digital music consumption.
Asake’s impact stretches beyond Nigeria. In 2024, he made history as the first African act to lead Spotify’s global debut album chart following the release of his third studio album, Lungu Boy.
