Alverca left-back Isaac James has revealed that he broke down in tears after receiving his maiden invitation to the Super Eagles, Prompt News Online reports.
James is among the 24 players called up by head coach Éric Chelle for Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
The defender has enjoyed an impressive start to the new season but admitted that he did not expect to earn a national team invitation so soon.
“I was doing well at the start of the season, but I didn’t expect to get a call-up immediately. I know it is my dream to be in the national team,” James told the Super Eagles media team.
James said he was both surprised and delighted when Chelle informed him of his selection.
“When the coach called me, I was so surprised. I didn’t expect it, but I was very happy,” he said.
The Alverca defender disclosed that the significance of the moment overwhelmed him, as he had long dreamed of representing Nigeria at senior international level.
“I must confess, I cried. I have been dreaming of playing for the national team. We have good players here, and to be among them, I’m very happy,” James added.
