The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has asserted that Nigeria’s current state would be significantly worse without the persistent prayers of its people.
Speaking on Sunday, June 1, during RCCG’s monthly Thanksgiving service in Lagos, Adeboye emphasized the importance of continuous intercession in preserving the nation’s stability.
He addressed those who question the value of repeated prayer and fasting, saying, “Some ask, ‘You’ve been praying and fasting—where is the result?’ I laugh. Without prayer, things would be far more critical in Nigeria. Let’s not stop.”
He encouraged believers to remain steadfast, reminding them that divine intervention still shapes the affairs of humanity.
“There is a God who rules in the affairs of men. If those praying stopped for even a week, the consequences would be terrifying. Keep praying. God controls the hearts of kings,” he urged.
Preaching on the theme “Shadow of the Almighty,” Adeboye shared testimonies of divine protection reported by RCCG members globally.
One example was a recent flood in the U.S. where all the homes on a street were submerged except for one hosting an RCCG house fellowship.
“House number eight, marked with an RCCG sign, was the only house untouched. Others were flooded. That’s not a coincidence—it’s divine protection,” he said.
He also referenced the fire incident at Otedola Bridge in Lagos, where many structures were destroyed, but an RCCG building remained intact.
“Buildings before and after it were consumed by fire, but not the RCCG building. That’s not ordinary,” Adeboye stated, as images of the event were displayed by the church’s media team.

He encouraged Christians to trust in God’s constant but often unseen protection. “Your safety is in God. His protection may not always be visible, but it is always present.
In peace or in crisis, the Almighty watches over His own,” he affirmed.
Earlier, Pastor Folu Adeboye led prayers for Nigeria, its leaders, and the nation’s security forces.
“Let us ask God to have mercy on our president and grant him peace, so he may find joy in his tenure,” she prayed.
The service also recognized the contributions of security and paramilitary personnel, underscoring the church’s continued commitment to interceding for national peace and protection.
