My Lebanese Father And Ondo-Born Mother Shaped My Identity – Ramsey Nouah

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Ramsey Nouah has revealed that his father is Lebanese while explaining the family background behind his strong command of the Yoruba language.

The 55-year-old actor made the disclosure during an interview on Curiosity Made Me Ask, where he discussed his upbringing and connection to Yoruba culture.

Nouah said he identifies strongly with Yoruba culture because he was born and raised in Lagos and his mother is from Ondo State.

“I speak Yoruba so well because I’m a Yoruba boy. I was born and bred in Lagos. My mum is from Ondo, but I’m mixed-race because my father is Lebanese,” he said.

The actor began his career in the early 1990s and has since established himself as one of the recognisable figures in the Nigerian film industry, both as an actor and filmmaker.

In 2010, he won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in The Figurine.

Prompt News reports Nouah later expanded his career into filmmaking, making his directorial debut with Living in Bondage: Breaking Free in 2019. He has since directed other Nollywood productions.

The actor has also recently spoken about the financial challenges associated with releasing films in cinemas.

According to Nouah, only a small percentage of filmmakers are likely to recoup the money invested in a cinema release, despite the substantial amounts spent on publicity and promotion.

“About only two percent of people would probably make their capital invested like ROI on cinemas. Even with the promotion and all of that, some people still do not get their capital invested,” he said.

His comments highlight his concerns about the commercial risks filmmakers face when they choose theatrical releases, particularly when the revenue generated from cinema audiences does not cover the production and promotional costs.
