Air strikes by the Nigerian military have killed 15 terrorists, including two Islamic State West Africa Province commanders, during an operation targeting a suspected bomb-making and logistics facility in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.
The operation, conducted by troops of Operation Hadin Kai at about 9.20pm on Wednesday, October 28, followed intelligence reports indicating terrorist activities around Kerenoa, according to a security report.
The report, attributed to security analyst Zagazola Makama, stated that military surveillance initially spotted two suspected terrorists riding on a motorcycle to a makeshift structure in the area.
Further monitoring reportedly revealed the presence of additional fighters at the location, prompting the military to launch precision air strikes against the suspected hideout.
A subsequent assessment of the operation indicated that 15 terrorists had been killed, while the targeted structures were destroyed.
Among those reportedly killed were two ISWAP commanders identified as Abu Musanna and Hassan Abu Huraira, whom the military described as prominent figures within the terrorist group.
Several other fighters were also said to have sustained injuries, including the ISWAP Wali, or governor, of the area, who reportedly suffered critical injuries during the bombardment.
The military further disclosed that a secondary fire observed after the strikes suggested that the destroyed structure might have been used to store materials for making improvised explosive devices.
The operation is part of ongoing military efforts to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their logistics and weaken their operational capabilities in the North-East.
