Ondo Police nab two over alleged ₦33m UK visa scam, declare one wanted

Detectives in Ondo State have arrested two suspects over an alleged ₦33 million visa fraud and launched a manhunt for a third accomplice fingered in the deal.

The arrests followed a petition by Legal Komfort & Associates on behalf of Mr Adeyeye Aderemi of Idanre, who claimed he was swindled by individuals promising to secure a United Kingdom visa for his son.

According to the petition, a woman, Bunmi Olowookere, in alleged collusion with others, collected the money in January 2025 with the assurance of delivering the travel documents but allegedly failed to fulfil the agreement.

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said police operatives immediately began tracking the suspects after the petition was received, leading to the arrest of Olowookere and one Akinlogbe Olakitan in Akure.

Preliminary findings showed that Olowookere allegedly received ₦28 million from the complainant and transferred the funds to Olakitan, who told investigators he sent the money to one Adegboyega Samuel, now on the run.

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered the deployment of all technological resources to track and arrest the fleeing suspect,” Jimoh stated, adding that the two arrested suspects had made confessional statements and would be prosecuted upon completion of the investigation.

The command also acknowledged the support of the Inspector-General of Police, describing it as instrumental to recent breakthroughs in curbing financial crime.

Jimoh urged residents to be vigilant when engaging with individuals claiming to facilitate overseas travel, warning that many fraudsters prey on unsuspecting citizens with fake opportunities.
