The controversy over the salaries of the head coach of Super Eagles, Eric Sèkuo Chelle may have been put to rest as the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has pointedly said that the Franco-Malian is not owed a dime after all.
This is even as Dikko has accused the sporting media of peddling false reports of Chelle being owed backlog of salaries, arguing that the former Eagles of Mali gaffer has not complained to anyone about his salaries entering into the proverbial “voice mail”.
Speaking on Monday on Arise Television’s breakfast programme, “Day Break,” disclosed that they have since undertaken the payment of the salary of Super Eagles coach.
Said he: “The NSC have been paying the salaries of Eric Chelle on behalf of the NFF even though we’re not a party to the contract. This is part of our support to the NFF. “
Prompt News reports that last May in Abuja, the NSC boss revealed that the Commission made provisions for the upfront payment of coach Eric Chelle’s salary until October through a presidentially endorsed support group as part of efforts to stabilise Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualification campaign.
However, the inability of Super Eagles to qualify for the 2026 World Cup in United States of America, Mexico, and Canada has spiked speculations over the continued stay of Chelle on the job and allegation of owed three months’ salary with the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco less than a week to kick off.
