Fuji music superstar Otunba Wasiu Ayinde, widely known as K1 De Ultimate, has officially declared his intention to be considered for the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland stool.

The announcement comes as the Fusengbuwa Ruling House begins the formal process of selecting a successor to the late Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON.

In a letter dated December 3, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Agunsebi Quarters, Ijebu-Ode, Ayinde—recipient of the national honour MON—explained that his candidacy is grounded in Ijebu traditions and the Ogun State Chieftaincy Laws.

He noted that he was born on March 3, 1957, and is a “bonafide son” of the Fusengbuwa lineage, tracing his roots to the Oba Jadiara family line. According to him, this ancestry qualifies him to present himself as a candidate in accordance with established customs.

K1 De Ultimate highlighted his decades-long contribution to Ijebuland, Yoruba culture, and Nigeria at large, citing his efforts in promoting Ijebu heritage through music and public service. He also referenced the chieftaincy titles conferred on him in 2023—Olori Omo-Oba and Otunba Afidipotemole of Akile Ijebu—by the late Awujale.

His declaration follows a directive to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to begin the selection of eligible princes. The Awujale Interregnum Administration Council, through the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Oke Abiodun Adebanjo, confirmed that it is the Fusengbuwa lineage’s turn to nominate candidates, following rotational tradition.

Prompt News reports the council instructed key leaders of the ruling house—Chairman Otunba Abdul-Lateef Adebayo Owoyemi, Deputy Chairman Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba, and Vice Chairman Prof. Fassy Adetokunbo Yusuf—to submit their shortlist of candidates within 14 days to the office of the Executive Chairman.

The succession process formally commenced on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, when the Ogbeni Odi took ceremonial possession of the Awujale’s Staff of Office, signalling the start of the next stage of selection.

The council emphasized the need for transparency, unity, and strict adherence to tradition, noting the importance of the Awujale stool—one of Nigeria’s most esteemed traditional titles. The late Oba Adetona, who ruled for over six decades, was widely celebrated for his leadership and national influence.

With K1 De Ultimate officially entering the race, public interest in the succession is expected to rise, especially given his status in Nigeria’s cultural scene. Other princes from the Fusengbuwa lineage are also likely to declare their intentions, with the final choice resting in the hands of the ruling house, kingmakers, and traditional custodians overseeing the process.
