Veteran music video director Clarence Peters has praised Burna Boy, describing him as the biggest music artist in Nigeria today.
Appearing on a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, Peters pointed to Burna Boy’s unmatched stage energy, commitment to live performance, and well-structured support system as key ingredients to his dominance in the music industry.
He highlighted that Burna Boy’s edge lies not just in talent, but in his deep understanding of what it takes to shine on stage and build a lasting brand.

According to him, surrounding oneself with highly skilled professionals has been a strategic move that has elevated Burna Boy’s artistry to world-class levels.
“The performances on stage, how you’re able to hold your brand. Look, Burna Boy is the biggest Nigerian artist, hands down, because Burna Boy loves being on stage, but also understands what he needs to be on stage. He’s become technically sound because he’s been garnished with people who are technically sound, because that’s important to him,” Peters said.
He also reflected on the wider entertainment landscape, drawing a line between raw talent and star power. He explained that what truly resonates with audiences—whether in music or film—is the charisma and presence of the performer.
“There’s a difference between an amazing actor and a star. The truth is, if you’re looking for amazing performances, go to the theater, go to stage. That’s not what you’re supposed to see.”
“That’s not, I mean, you would get good performances, but the personality and the charisma of the actor — the star power of the actor — is what you go to the cinema to go see on your streaming services. So America has an issue with that. The almighty America has an issue with that too. There’s not a lot of stars. So Netflix is having it here and there because they’re not a lot of stars,” he added.
Peters’ remarks add further weight to the ongoing recognition of Burna Boy’s global influence and commanding presence in the Afrobeats movement.
