Respected Nigerian rapper Jude Abaga, popularly known as M.I, has opened up about the growing presence of younger artists in the country’s rap scene.

Despite their increasing popularity, the hip-hop veteran insists he remains unfazed and confident in his abilities.

In a recent conversation with Jay On Air, M.I expressed admiration for the emerging talents but made it clear that their success hasn’t shaken his confidence or sense of relevance in the industry.

“The likes of Odumodublvck, Shallipopi, Ladipoe, Falz are the rappers who are currently making waves, but I have not felt like I’m the old guy in terms of skills,” he said.

“For me as an artist, that part doesn’t affect me. What I care about is if you and I were in the studio, am I with somebody who can outrap me?”

Speaking further, M.I shared that while he respects the creativity of the new generation, he doesn’t feel pressured or overshadowed by their rise.

“I love what Odumodu is doing. I love what Blaqbonez is doing. I love their talent but it doesn’t intimidate me,” he added.
“I’m not Davido, I’m not Wizkid; they are in the red-hot moment.”

M.I’s remarks highlight his belief that true artistry is measured not by current trends or popularity, but by raw skill and lyrical depth. Even with the spotlight now shifting toward younger acts, he maintains that his ability and legacy still stand strong.

Having been a defining force in Nigerian hip-hop for over a decade, M.I has shaped the sound of modern rap in the country, influencing a generation of musicians along the way.
