A passenger aircraft carrying 49 people has crashed in Russia’s far eastern Amur region, with no signs of survivors reported so far.
The twin-engine Antonov-24, operated by Angara Airlines, was en route from Blagoveshchensk to the town of Tynda when it lost contact with air traffic control, according to regional governor Vassily Orlov in a statement on Telegram.
Rescue efforts began shortly after the plane disappeared from radar. A search helicopter later located the burning wreckage on a mountainside roughly 16 kilometres from Tynda.
Local emergency teams reported no visible signs of survivors from the air.
The Amur regional civil defence agency confirmed that rescue operations are ongoing. “So far, 25 personnel and five units of equipment have been deployed to the site, with four additional aircraft and their crews on standby,” the agency said.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are expected to follow once rescue efforts are complete.
