Nigeria’s D’Tigress suffered a disappointing start to their 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign after falling 99–81 to South Korea in Berlin on Friday.
Rena Wakama’s side showed plenty of fight early on but found themselves 26–22 behind at the end of the first quarter.
The African champions refused to go away and stayed on the heels of the Koreans, cutting the deficit to just three points at halftime, 48–45.
South Korea, however, tightened their grip on the contest after the break and carried a 68–62 advantage into the final quarter.
D’Tigress pushed for a late rally, but the Asians found another gear in the closing minutes and pulled clear to seal an emphatic 18-point victory.
The defeat leaves Nigeria with little margin for error as they prepare for a crucial clash against Hungary on Saturday.
Wakama and her players will be desperate for a quick response as they bid to revive their World Cup campaign.
