No fewer than 20 shops were gutted by fire in the early hours of Tuesday at the Faringada Market in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The National Emergency Management Agency disclosed this in a statement shared on its official X handle, noting that the inferno broke out at about 6:00 a.m.
According to the agency, the blaze largely affected shops dealing in vehicle spare parts. It added that four containers and two vehicles, a bus and a Toyota Corolla, were also consumed by the fire.
NEMA, however, stated that no casualty was recorded in the incident.
The agency said its Jos Operations Office collaborated with the Federal Fire Service to combat the fire, adding that emergency responders successfully curtailed the spread of the flames to adjoining shops.
It explained that preliminary findings from market stakeholders indicated that the cause of the outbreak had yet to be ascertained.
