The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old housewife, Aisha Musa, for allegedly attempting to poison her husband barely 40 days after their wedding.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Gwamma Village in Bauchi Local Government Area of the state.
The police alleged that Musa secretly mixed a poisonous substance with her husband’s food in an attempt to kill him.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said the incident was reported following a distress call received at about 7:40pm from an unidentified woman residing in the Wunti Dada area of Bauchi.
Habib said officers attached to the ‘C’ Division, Tafawa Balewa Estate, were immediately mobilised to the scene.
He explained that the victim was subsequently rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he was admitted for treatment.
According to the police spokesman, the victim was in stable condition as of the time of filing the report.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the alleged incident and reportedly made a statement during interrogation.
Police investigators also recovered an empty bottle suspected to have contained the poisonous substance, alongside remnants of the meal, which were preserved as exhibits.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
Habib said the suspect would be arraigned after the completion of the investigation.
