Nigerian actor Yomi Fabiyi has publicly criticised his colleague Baba Ijesha, alleging that he was abandoned despite standing by him during his legal troubles.
In a viral video circulating online, Fabiyi—who had been one of Baba Ijesha’s vocal supporters during his trial—expressed disappointment, saying his efforts were not appreciated.
He claimed he risked his reputation and influence to support the actor, only to feel betrayed afterward.
“Baba Ijesha thinks he has arrived. I sacrificed my life. I put everything on the line for him. The little fame and influence I had, I used it to ensure he didn’t get life imprisonment,” Fabiyi said.
The actor further alleged that he played a significant role in pursuing an appeal for Baba Ijesha but was later threatened by someone allegedly sent by him to stop him from speaking on the matter.
Fabiyi also claimed that after regaining his freedom, Baba Ijesha released a song that mocked him and failed to acknowledge his support.
“He thought he could disgrace me,” he added.
Speaking on the personal toll, Fabiyi said the situation has affected his public image, as many people now associate him with the controversy.
“People now tag me as someone supporting a paedophile because of him. I was once at the American embassy when a woman publicly confronted me over the issue,” he recounted.

Baba Ijesha was first arraigned in June 2021 on multiple charges, including sexual assault involving a minor. In July 2022, a Lagos High Court sentenced him to 16 years in prison, with the terms running concurrently.
Prompt News reports he was released in November 2025 after serving part of his sentence.
